Less is more

To paraphrase the laws of supply and demand,

As availability of a resource rises its value drops.

This typcially applies to economics.

It also applies to communication.

Think of the wise people we meet who seem to hardly speak. When they finally share their thoughts we focus wholeheartedly on their every word.

We then spend the next day telling others what the wise one said and how it changed us.

This doesn’t mean that speaking less makes our words better.

Better words come from better thoughts.

Better thoughts come from creating space between thoughts. A space where creativity and synthesis can emerge.

The training :

  1. Spend less time talking.
  2. Spend more time doing deep work, listening, and assimilating ideas

The results:

  1. People listen when you speak.
  2. When you speak, you say things worth listening to.
