How to balance everything

A common theme for grad school students is the attempt to balance school, life, work, a relationship, and all the extra activities pursued out of FOMO.

What we can do is put the most important things first.

If we stay focused on priorities and live long enough, our priorities become honored by the habits we have built and we can open up to experience more as we grow our capacity.

A helpful reminder:

Anyone in history (Benjamin Franklin, Ghandi, Davinci, etc.) only had 24 hours in a day, and often with a much shorter shelf-life…

We have the time.

Few things are essential.

We could die tomorrow.

We could live 80 years more.

We are already successful if we look through the eyes of ourselves from 5 years ago.

We work so hard because we want to share our success with those we love and we also know we could enjoy life even more if we had more focus and discipline.

Remember to designate some daily energy to savoring and enjoying where you are now.

Remember to designate some daily energy to planning and investing for where you want to be in 10, 20, 30 etc years from now.

Balance is not experienced between this and that.

Balance is experienced between now and then.
