Memento vitae

Some lessons are worth relearning every day and as often as possible.

For instance, the concept of memento mori. By remembering death, life becomes more valuable.

A powerful spin on this is memento amore perit. Those we love can die at any moment. And if it happened, I can imagine begging for even my least favorite moments with them. I would beg to hold my vomiting son at 3AM again. I would beg to hug my alcoholic family member one more time. I would beg to adjust the patient who is too distracted by her stress to look me in the eye when she is with me.

Every day is what it is AND every day is what we make it. We don’t have to take every opportunity, but they are there for the taking.

Memento mori.

Memento vitae.

Memento vivere.
